Authors in spare time

Our historical linguists are very busy taking some well-deserved rest after a long academic year and right before the next one starts, much as it already looms around the corner.

Two books resting in the sand, at the beach. A white, square hard cover and a smaller, pocket-size, emerald green soft cover.

Authors’ writing in their spare time

Our own Anna Wojtyś has recently obtained her habilitation (a post-doc academic degree in Poland) and has been awarded the title of university professor at her alma mater. To get her second wind, she wrote… a crime story! The book, entitled “W głębi duszy jest mordercą” [deep down s/he is a murderer], takes us to a lake house deep in the woods, where the mystery ensues. And, we’ve been told, another mystery is already in the works!

An emerald green soft cover with a bright-red splash of blood next to the title "W głębi duszy jest mordercą" [deep down s/he is a murderer] , an image of a wood-covered island above it and and author's name, Anna Wojtyś, at the top. The book rests in the sand, with seagull footprints and seaweeds all around.

Anna comes from Warsaw historical linguistics circles, long kindled by Professor Wełna, who recently retired from the University of Warsaw. As a tribute upon the Professor’s retirement, another Æ author, Marta Sylwanowicz, presented our long-time mentor with a book of her drawings, commemorating his name in unconventional settings. “To Professor Jerzy Wełna – with love” is a collection of Marta’s visions and interplay with name and image, as she sees it.

White square hardcover, with two comic-like gloved hands forming a heart shape and the title "For Professor Jerzy Wełna with Love", resting in the sand, with seagull footprints and seaweeds all around.
